1. Thought I had this week…
I was in the greeting card aisle this week getting a “thank you” card, when I saw the Father’s Day cards. I imagined there was a time when I might have seen those and thought… “Oh, I have to get my dad a card”…almost as if it was another thing on my to-do list. Instead, I had the thought… “I don’t get to get my dad a card.” He passed away just about 8 years ago. First… I miss him greatly. Second… it made me think about all the other things I do every day with a skewed sense of obligation. I have to go to work versus I get to go to work. I have to work out versus I get to work out. I have to attend that event versus I get to attend that event. I’m sure while one person is complaining about having to cut the grass, someone in a wheelchair is thinking how much they would love to be able to cut the grass. So… I’m going to be working on shifting my thinking to a get to mentality instead of a have to mentality. We MUST be grateful for what we get to do in our lives. I would really LOVE TO be able to get my dad a Father’s Day card this week.
2. Artist I saw this week…
I saw a clip of Raphaël Gromy, who is a “French puppeteer and street performer known for bringing marionettes to life through expressive movement and physical theater.” I’ve seen him before and likely posted a clip of him in the past, and he is incredible. He makes the puppet look very real through delicate movements and uses the puppet to paint works of art. Serious talent! See two different clips below. You can see the life-like movements, as well as the painting that is being created by the puppet. I love seeing people doing extraordinary things, and I am constantly amazed at what humans are capable of.
3. Something I saw this week that got me thinking…
I saw a bumper sticker this week that simply had these symbols on it, in this order… ÷ < =. It got me thinking about how powerful we can be when we work together… and how weak and vulnerable we are when we are divided. Chiropractors have been getting phenomenal results for a long, long time, without drugs or surgery, and in a very cost-effective way, yet the profession has failed to gain the traction needed be a major force in the healthcare arena. Why? Because we have never been able to come together fully as a profession, have had internal turmoil, and have failed to agree on basic tenets. Chiropractic could be so much more widely used and recognized as a viable first step with many health-related issues, but because of this division, it has not been. This is why I am concerned about our country right now. The division makes us weaker, more vulnerable, and much less likely to remain the strongest country. Together we can achieve anything… divided we are likely to crumble. So… ÷ < =… in professions, families, organizations, and, of course, in countries. 😔 The flip side of this is equally true… + > ÷… together is (much, much) greater than divided!!!

Or better yet…

***Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers out there!!***
