1. Daily email I signed up for…
You may have seen billboards along highways with inspirational quotes that are posted by Pass It On. I’ve always enjoyed them. Turns out that they have a website where you can find all of them. I also signed up to get daily emails from them with one of their inspirational quotes each day. It seems like they may have weekly themes, as this week each quote was about kindness. I’ve only been receiving them for one week, but find myself looking forward to getting them. I check my emails most days, so it’s easy to see their emails… and it takes one minute to read the quote. You can visit their website at PassItOn.com. Their tagline (which I love) is “The foundation for a better life.” See one of those quotes from this week below…
2. Book I started (and a couple of facts I learned) this week…
Part of the American Dream is to get to retirement. The crazy thing is that retirement is a fairly new concept. Before World War II, almost all Americans worked until they died. Fifty percent of our labor force, until 1940, was made up of men that were 65 years old and older. That was not too long ago. I learned this in the book, The Psychology of Money, by Morgan Housel. I’m only one chapter in, so I can’t recommend the book yet, but I’m liking it so far. He’s explaining why we have such a hard time saving and investing, and why we don’t handle money well in general. The idea of investing and saving is a fairly new concept… and we are “newbies” in this area. I believe financial management is one of the key pillars to wellness, so it helps to get a better understanding of our relationship with money. I’ll post an update on this book when I am finished, but it came highly recommended by several credible sources. Here is one line from the book… “We all do crazy stuff with money, because we’re all relatively new to this game and what looks crazy to you might make sense to me. But no one is crazy – we all make decisions based on our own unique experiences that seem to make sense to us in a given moment.”
3. Video I came across this morning…
We do a lot of water skiing. Naturally, we try to think of new and different things to try. I came across this video from a few years ago of my son, Kyle, and me barefoot waterskiing together. He’s barefooting forward, and I’m barefooting backwards. We both step off of a ski. I think I wiped out on the first try, but we got it on the second try. I’m on the left, and he’s on the right. Great memories! I love having video of this kind of stuff. Thought you might enjoy…
