1. Powerful story I shared a few times this week…
Years ago, I made a phone call to let a professor of mine know how grateful I was that he got me so excited about the brain and nervous system. Wow… was I glad I made that call… and really glad I made it when I did. I shared the story with a few people this week, and based on their responses, I figured I’d share it with you here… as well as two pieces of advice. See the video below…
2. Supplement that I now recommend…
I’ve taken creatine on and off since college. Back then, I knew it helped me gain muscle, but wasn’t 100% sure it was good for me overall. Well… creatine is not only safe, it is now being shown to be better for more than just muscle growth and strength. It has been shown to help with focus, cognition, and mood, plus much more. And women appear to get a ton of benefits from creatine as well, which is something that I only learned in the past couple of years and was surprised by. I currently take 5g per day most days. I will usually take it for a couple of months, then take a few weeks to a month off. The brain improvements are seen in higher does, so I will be bumping it to 10g daily which I will split into two 5g doses–one in the morning and one at night. I know for sure that it helps with building muscle if taken while consistently doing strength training (which is important to all humans, especially aging individuals), but I will keep you posted on the brain/cognition benefits once I bump up the dose. Creatine is one of the longest used and most tested supplements, so we know it is extremely safe. Creatine is the Product of the Month in our office in December. You can read more about creatine by clicking here.
3. Instagram clip I saw this week that caused me to stop and think…
This Instagram clip (@mariashriver) does a great job of reminding us that “life goes on all around us, yet we don’t know what each other’s stories may be.” It reminded me that we do not know what other people are dealing with, struggling with, or going through, and that we need to consider that before passing judgement, getting frustrated, or being annoyed by the actions and words of those around us. I think you’ll like it, and I believe it will get you to stop and think for a minute… as that is what it did for me.
